In Memory of the victims of 9/11

Last year when the hurricane Katrina thread started; I wasn't posting here yet.

I know this is a B-ball thread; but on the 5th anniversary; I had to tell a story about my uncle on that day.

He was a port authority police officer who died trying to help evacuate people from the north tower. His name was Carlos Mendoza, & the only thing that was found in the recovery effort was part of his arm; which the family buried 9 months later.

He is missed especially by my cousins. I take them to ball games; they love baseball; the Knicks not so much b/c they loose. We still miss him; as I'm sure those that went thru Katrina understand. Every day is 9/11; every day we try to go on; it makes sports even more important to me.

Feel free to post your thoughts. & you can go to:

Sorry to hear about your loss Jose'! That was one of those days where you know where you were and what you were doing. I was unloading a FedEx tractor trailor there in Stockton when I worked for FedEx. I had to run a delivery  route that day in Modesto and I wasn't able to see any T.V. until later in the evening. When I saw those first images of the WTC, I became numb...It looked like hollywood was making a movie in NYC. But, unforunately it was no movie. Those plaes were all headed for California. In fact, there was a guy that lives in Lodi that was in one of the towers when the plane hit. He was in New York training, I forgot what company he worked for. I want to say Stanley Morgan. Fortunately, he got out alive. I remember Cannel 3 interviewed him back then. Peace..out!

Morgan Stanley, I think; & I remember that interview too.

With my birthday being on Sept. the 12th, every year feels more poignant.I was planning a birthday roadtrip up to the north coast, & me & my significant other at the time were planning to drive up the north coast of cali that evening; but instead of packing, I watched as it unfolded on t.v. with all the un-reality of your worst nightmare. i felt the same when  the Oklahoma city federal building happened. I've been to the memorial site in OKC; there is a feeling there so poignant it brings you to tears just being in the atmosphere.  life is a gift, not to be taken for granted.

I'm sorry for your loss jose` but glad you can take your nieces around & show them the joy of sports.

I've been to the OKC memorial too; I was on a business trip to Texas & wanted to see if it felt like the WTC site.

It's similar, but the feeling in NY is even more so, if that makes sense.

Thank you guys for your words of support. it means alot, for the memory of my uncle.
